The Kanin Chronicles takes place 4 years after the Trylle trilogy... 

and it seems that this whole trilogy will be releasing throughout 2015 so there won't be much of a waiting time in between each book!!!

AND, do I even have to point out how GORGEOUS these bookcovers are?!?!?!

An ARC was received for an honest review.

A REAL BOY is a dystopian retelling of... I really wanted to say Pinocchio, but because it's suppose to be based on a Grimm story, I am going to have to go with Little Red Riding Hood... 

In this future world, the rules have changed - humans can no longer go outside without breathing filters and the risk of being severely burned within 20 minutes of being exposed; they must get a license to pro-create by medical standards and they're babies are raised in a "c" until they are 5 years old, which is when they can go home to be with their families. At 12 years of age, all humans must take an assessment test to decipher their future. Meanwhile, there are robots all around being programmed to do most things that humans can no longer do. As perfect and near human that they look, they are still stiff in movement and lack personality and compassion. And Blue has no problem working with them and lacking in making any connections with anyone, including the humans around her. 

For the last 5 years, Blue has been working as a cybernetics apprentice for Professor Jafet and is determined to work as hard as she can to get ahead in her career; she agrees to work with the Professor on a new "experiment".  

Imagine her surprise when the Professor's experiment is named Rowan. A robot like no other; and no human comes close to what he is either. 

"You don't realize how selfish a feeling love can be until it calls you to do something selfless."

At first, because of the set up and the characters names, I had a strong feeling that the story was based on Pinocchio - The Professor being Geppetto (she created Rowan), Rowan is Pinocchio (robots aren't suppose to tell lies) and Blue, "the conscious" (struggling with what is right/wrong or following her heart). 

But, I also feel that this story could be a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Blue being Little Red, The Professor being the Grandmother, and Rowan the Wolf. The forbidden love between Blue and Rowan mimicking Little Red and the Wolf because of society not accepting what Rowan/Wolf is and the indecision of Blue/Little Red with doing what is right and following her heart. 

I hope that Claudia Gray decides to expand on this short story sometime in the near future! Rowan is definitely someone (something?) that I would like to see more of!

SKIN TRADE is a retelling of Hansel and Gretel... Locke and Britt.

Oh my, this one is dark. So very dark, it made knots in my stomach. 

It's a bit gory. There is blood and other stuff; not too graphic, but definitely enough for my over-active imagination... I really don't want to say more, if I do, I will definitely give the story away.

And if you like twisted, dark tales - you would buy this book just to read this one!

BEAUTY AND THE CHAD is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast in the most comical way! The author has flipped their personalities making the Beast easy-going, witty, sincere and quite funny. He was transformed by some "broad" while at his fraternity, and he misses his Xbox most of all. He speaks like a 'surfer dude' and is very eager to do most things himself. He does not care for magic or whimsical beauty.
Beauty, is straight-forward, a rule follower and does not understand a word that the Beast speaks of, saying things like 'high five' and referring to her as a dude. She is surprised by the Beasts ways, and even more surprised over his willingness to share his exact feelings with her.
Can this Beauty tame the unruly Beast and help him learn his lesson???

The Beehive Book News #28: Book Haul and November Wrap-Up

Good day everybody!!! 

It's been a very looong, trying, stressful week and I couldn't bring myself to create a vlog today, so sorry!

The Ultra Violets is an adorable book - it's ALL purple, even the inside, font, pictures and all! PURPLE! Very cute! Can't wait to get my girly on with this middle grade read...

And Home Front Girl is a gorgeous book - it is a bout a girl who grew up in pre-war, war, and after war america. Told through her own diaries, poems and drawings - a definite likeness to Diary of Anne Frank. I am really intrigued by it, can't wait to dive into our history from a first person poin-of-view.

The Beehive Book Update #25: The Very Grateful Edition

I want to thank all of you that sent us happy thoughts, well wishes and prayers while we went through Hurricane Sandy. My little family and I have been extremely blessed! Being right in the middle of Long Island had its benefits, we didn't even lose power. It was so odd to see everything unfold on TV  all of the mess and destruction that surrounds us. We still cannot believe how very lucky we are when people within an arms length away have lost so much. We are currently experiencing a gas shortage, which is unbelievable to me. I see the lines and everyone's panic, but it seems unreal...
We are truly thankful and have been continuously counting our blessings. We are staying home until it is completely safe to get gas and venture out. Having all of these books to help us, especially my boys, get through our days have been wonderful...

Welcome to my first Beehive News Vlog!

Hello bookie friends!!!
It's been a while now that I have been wanting to create my own vlog, and here it is!
It's kind of long, SO sorry!!! I forgot to keep an eye on the time! and the funny part is - I forgot to mention a few things too, lol! I think things would have moved along a lot faster if a) I could read my notes, lol! b) could remember what I want to say without my notes! ha!
I was really nervous while doing it, you can actually see me trying to contain myself from giggling and making fun of myself :) I promise to do better on the next one!
This first vlog was suppose to be a virtual type of newsletter, but like I said, it got too long, so I edited some stuff out and just concentrated on the books that I had received....

A Review: Hollowland by Amanda Hocking

Do you love/like zombies??? 

This is my second attempt to reading a zombie book - Here's what I read and what I think about it...

I have to admit, I am a big fan of Amanda Hocking's Trylle Trilogy -
I read them as ebooks and just loved everything about the whole trilogy.
When I saw Hollowland, I had some high expectations, even with the zombies in it.

Hocking did not disappoint me!
First, you got one kick ass main character, Remy King.
No matter what happens, this girl manages to keep herself together and not break down in any way. I know that some people had issues with this, but no one really knows how you will react if you were in the same situation as Remy - wouldn't you do almost anything for the ones that you love? Remy is trekking across America while killing off zombies to find her brother, the only person left of her family.
Along the way she gains a few friends who help her. And towards the last quarter of the book, we finally start to see a bit more of Remy's personality - a softer side where she slowly lets her guard down and we finally start to understand how strong she really is.

There is a tiny bit of romance going on, not a lot, but enough to remind you that even though there are zombies lurking in every corner, we always find time to be human and live life as normal as possible.

As for the zombies... I guess it's just a personal preference. I don't like gore and slimey things... when I first started reading the book, it didn't bother me. It starts out slow, but as the story moved along and the zombies got older and more started to pop up all over the place - it got weirder and gross!
Definitely not my thing. It's going to be a while before I read another zombie book, lol!

I give it 3 1/2 stars.
And I do hope to read the second book to the series (The Hollows), Hollowmen, later... this year ;)

It was definitely another ah-maaazing week for me!!!

AND Lookie here, I received my very first official ARC on Friday!!!
I wasn't feeling so great on Friday, and was just laying on the couch watching a movie, dozing off, when I heard a bang on my door, scared the poop out of me! I thought someone kicked it, lol! I took a peek and saw the UPS truck pulling away, so I immediately opened the door and found this book sitting there!
Somehow, someway, someone from Penguin Books, USA sent it to me!

I don't know how I got on your list, but I am so happy and can't wait to read it :)

Can I Get An Amen? by Sarah Healy

AND, I have yet to read a mermaid book - I know, what the h-e-double-stick is wrong with me, lol! I am really looking forward to seeing what Tempest Unleashed is all about!

I've got lots of reading to do - it looks like my IMM's are going to start quieting down for the next few weeks - I have a ton of reviews to catch up on too! and my "book allowance" has already been depleted for the month, eeek! lol ;)
