The Reading Queue: March 2014

The Reading Queue is a monthly meme hosted by
This is where we can all share what our reading plans for the month,
and give a quick lineup and/or recap of the books we read last month...

*What I read last month...

I fell behind on reading and blogging last month due to illness and lots of family stuffs going on. I had such a long TBR I had wanted to get through, but reality had to take over, lol. I'm (hopefully) setting more realistic goals this month and get through my pile ;)

- Belly Laughs: The Naked Truth About Pregnancy and Childbirth by Jenny McCarthy (A)
I wish I had read this before/during my pregnancies! SO funny, and really honest - all the things people don't tell you or you have to learn yourself. Such a great way to be able to laugh all the icky and stressful moments away! And I have to admit, I really didn't think that she would impress me with her writing - but I loved it all. I look forward to reading more of her books soon.

- City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2) by Cassandra Clare (YA)
OMG! Why did I wait so long to really get into this series?!?!
I have no words!!! Jace. Clary. And I LOVE Magnus to pieces!
The storyline and plot gets thicker and better and I am loving it!!!
Can't wait to read book 3 now :)

- Stick Dog Wants a Hot Dog by Tom Watson (MG)
We love Stick Dog and his friends: Stripes, Mutt, Karen, and Poo-Poo (her name is because she's a poodle, not because of the other stuff! lol) These pups get into mischievous adventures whenever they're hungry! So much fun and laughter - my boys adore these books!

- Bring Me Back by Karen Booth (A)
- Back Forever by Karen Booth (A)
Loved these two books!!! Christopher is SO dreamy!... these definitely have a great New Adult feel to them too - characters are older, but, young at heart. I highly recommend them to anyone who likes to read New Adult and Adult... my reviews for both should be up very soon!

- The Poodle Tales Book 9: The Modeling Poo by Toni Tuso Faber (C)
An adorable rhyming book about a poodle who creates herself into a fashionable model.
A fun book, teaches kiddos to be brave and that you can be whoever you want to be, even a modeling-poo. My full review will be up soon.

Grim: A Collection of Dark and Twisted Fairy Tales edited by Christine Johnson (YA)
Dark and twisted is understatement for some of these stories, like SKIN TRADE by Myra McEntire (shivers!)... I have reviewed 3 out of the 17 stories so far, I hope to have the rest posted by the end of March! LOVING all of them! So far my favorite is BEAUTY AND THE CHAD by Sarah Rees-Brennan, hilarious!!!

*My March TBR...
- Shatter Me (eBook) by Tahereh Mafi (YA)
A few pages in already! Liking what I'm seeing so far ;)

- City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) (PB) by Cassandra Clare (YA)
I am dying to know what happens next!
As bad as Valentine is, I am really intrigued by him and need more of him in my life right now!
Also - Jace! More Jace, puh-lease!!! And Magnus too...

- The Fault in Our Stars (HB) by John Green (YA)
I don't know what to say... Confession: I have not read a John Green book yet!
(Please, don't throw any books at me, I don't want them to be injured!)
I am hoping to finally get to this tear-jerker; as a read-a-long with Jessica of Step Into Fiction for support and a shoulder to cry on ;)

- Liv, Forever (ARC) by Amy Talkington (YA)
Art school! Love! Murder! Ghosts!
It's been a long time since I've read a ghost story... and a good one involving star-crossed love!
Can't wait to read this thrilling mystery!

- Queen of Hearts (eGalley) by Colleen Oakes (YA)
A princess who becomes a villain!!! Aaaah! Can't wait to read this!!!

- Love Letters to the Dead (eGalley) by Ava Dellaira (YA)
This book sounds heart wrenching! I am excited to see who she writes to and what happens to her!

- We Were Liars (eGalley) by E. Lockhart (YA)
"Lies upon lies. True love. The truth."
I have been hearing nothing but good things about this one already! My expectations are really high right now. Cannot wait to read about these characters.

- Sleep No More (eGalley) by Aprilynne Pike (YA)
A psychological thriller, an oracle.
I really enjoyed her Wings series. I am not a 'thriller' kind of reader, but I really like her writing and am curious to see what this is all about.

... and maybe, if I have time, I'll read these too...

- The Blue-Ribbon Jalapeno Society Jubilee (Cadillac, Texas #1) (ARC) by Carolyn Brown (A)
- The Red-Hot Chili Cook-Off (Cadillac, Texas #2) (ARC) by Carolyn Brown (A)
This series sounds like so much fun! Set in the south, 4 BFFs get into all kinds of mischief - I adore books that take place in the south and can't wait to get into this world and have a couple of chuckles!

- Two Sisters (ARC) by Mary Hogan (A)
The title of this book alone drew me in. As the oldest of 'two sisters' I'm curious to see how these two sisters relationship is. My sister, mom and I are extremely close, and I always have such a hard time hearing about siblings not being as close as we are. Sounds like I may need a tissue or two for this too.

SO, what's on your READING QUEUE!!!

  1. Belly Laughs sounds funny! I should read it now. Does it have a lot of f-bombs? I like the Mortal Instruments series and I thought they just got better as they went along. I’ve never read John Green either! lol. I don’t like thrillers either so I’m going to wait to see if you thought Sleep No More was any good. I loved her Wings series too. Good luck with your reading list!

  2. Just put Stick Dog on reserve at our library. I haven't heard of them but they seem like something my kids will like. So thank you! I'm not a huge John Green fan and TFiOS is the only book of his I read. I hope you like it and I'm glad you'll have someone to read it with. Like the book or not, it did bring the tears! I have Love Letters to the Dead to read as well. I hope it's good! Enjoy your reading this month!
