A Book Tour: Revamped (Angel Creek #1) by Ada Adams (Review/Interview/Giveaway!)

by Ada Adams
Release Date: February 20th, 2012
Format: eBook
Genre: YA, Supernatural

(from Goodreads)

A simple mission turned deadly.

Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

ReVamped is an action packed and intriguing page-turner of a story...
a good mix of paranormal and mystery !

The story takes place in 2015, where vampires have already been accepted and live among us. Along with the current human President, there is also a Vampire President and laws that claim that Vampires cannot feed off of humans nor turn them. Vampires are trained to become Guardians for protecting towns and its inhabitants.

The Vampire President's daughter, Dawn, has lived her whole life at the President's mansion. She has been in training for her whole entire life and is one of the strongest and most reliable warriors ever. It also helps that Dawn is one of the rarest types of Vampires, she is a Born - which means that she wasn't  Made by being bitten, but was conceived by vampire parents. It's very complicated and very rare to be a Born Vampire...

The world that Adams builds for these vampires is so refreshing. Usually when I think of a vampire I automatically assume that they are going to be physically strong, but that they also are going to be fearless and impeccable. The unique group of characters that Adams puts together is so comical but in such a good way - to the point that you want to join their group and be friends with all of them.

Yes, there is a good mystery going on, involving a ton of action - rogue vampires are fighting about, and they want Dawn! Why?

And lets not forget the love interests here! Ethan, the sexy human bartender who had arrived into town just a few weeks before Dawn - what's his story and what is he hiding?
And of course, there is the sexy vampire, Sebastian, that had just recently arrived into town too, just a few months before - what is his story? Why is he so adamant about keeping his distance from Dawn, and yet, following her around everywhere she goes?
I have to say, while reading this book I couldn't help but think that it reminds me a little bit of the Sookie Stackhouse Series (True Blood) - the YA version of course! If you're a fan you will definitely enjoy ReVamped!

1. Describe ReVamped in three words.
This is a tricky one! I never do well with word-limits. :) Fun paranormal mystery? I excluded the word “vampire”, since it’s already kind of in the title.

2. What inspired you to write ReVamped?
It’s no secret that our society is obsessed with vampires. From books to movies to TV shows—we simply adore the little bloodsuckers! I was inspired by that fact, and wanted to explore what would happen if, encouraged by our adoration for them, vampires decided to “come out of the coffin”. I figured that our society would worship them and treat them like celebrities. I mean, if you heard your cute neighbor was a vampire, you’d be excited, right? However, I wanted to take the premise further and explore some of those vampires who weren’t so perfect, attractive, strong, or capable. From that rose a humorous action-adventure story about a group of misfit vampires and the girl responsible for “revamping” them intro strong and brave protectors of a little town called Angel Creek. Of course, adding a couple of cute and mysterious guys into the story was also a must.

3. What inspired the book cover (coloring, font, etc.) for ReVamped?
It was very important to me for ReVamped’s cover to be true to the story. I wanted to find the perfect balance between an eye-catching cover and the content of book. I adore pretty covers, but since Dawn is such a strong and independent character who kicks a lot of butt, I didn’t want the cover to be “too pretty”. Therefore, pretty high-fashion gowns (which I love on covers!) were out. I told my wonderful graphic artist, Olga Barkhatova, what my ideas for the cover and the font were, and she did a fabulous job bringing my vision to life. The color purple is very significant, as the unique color of Dawn’s eyes plays an important part in ReVamped’s story (and in further books). I had to turn down some more girly font choices and go for the current one, as it does a good job of being unique and  hinting at the action and adventure that occurs in the book. I also decided to switch around the “RE” so that it was facing backwards. It’s a little homage to the misfits, who are kind of “backwards vampires”!

4. What book did you last read? What are you reading now? and what do you plan to read next?
I have had the pleasure of meeting some great indie writers lately and have been reading their books: Intangible by J. Meyers, Drowning Mermaids by Nadia Scrieva, and Fateful by Cheri Schmidt. I also just finished Divergent by Veronica Roth and am going on to a few book series that I have yet to read like the The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. I’m also intrigued by her The Immortal Rules novel. I’ve heard great things about it. Plus, vampires—yay!

5. What is your most favorite Fairy-Tale character? and why?
I think one that always stood out to me (even though it’s such an old movie/character) was Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. I remember watching the movie when I was very, very young and that scene with the dress changing colors from pink to blue vividly stands out in my mind. However, I’m really glad to see the recent trend in strong female fairytale characters. I love to cheer on the brave and adventurous fairy-tale heroines! I think that they are great role models for young and old viewers alike.

6. What are you working on now and/or what is your next project?
I’m currently working on ReAwakened, the next book in the Angel Creek series. It should be out later on this summer. The second book takes the readers on a more intimate journey with the characters. We learn a lot about the misfits’ pasts, and Dawn gets closer to Sebastian and Ethan. ;) Not to mention, another big threat is looming in Angel Creek.
