Good morning and happy Monday to all of you!
As all of us book-ie peeps know, BEA kicks-off today!!!
Yes, I will be heading in on Wednesday, but I didn't want to miss a minute of anything going on at BEA, so I decided to do the Armchair this year, and Live Streaming too :)
Today, we start with intros! Can't wait to see and "meet" other bloggers out there!
Here's mine...
- Please tell us a little about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? Here's mine...
My name is Margie aka The Bumble Girl (see where the nickname came from here :) I'm a 30-something, stay-at-home mom to two sticky but adorabley sweet boys, married for almost 9 years to my Dino and we live on Long Island with a pup named Miley Rose and a small parrot, his name is Nemo.
Technically, I have been blogging since July 2008, but I have been blogging about books for the last 6 months.
4 years ago, I was stuck in a rut and needed to find an easy creative outlet, somewhere to chat with people and share what I was doing at the time. I started with scrap booking, then cardmaking/stamping... which slowly evolved me back into drawing and reading again. Once I started reading again, I knew that I had to find other book-addicts to share, chat with and build up my shelves with wonderful new reads :)
- What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012?
I am currently reading a few books, lol - The Taker by Alma Katsu (Adult), Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz, Simplicity by Valia Lind and re-reading The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross.
A few of my 2012 favorites are... Enchanted by Alethea Kontis, The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg and Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo.
- Tell us one non-book related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.
Hmmm... I think that some of you already know that I blog about cardmaking/stamping. I just recently took a hiatus from it, but, I have missed it so much I have started creating again and will be blogging about it starting later this week!... I live on Long Island, and my family is originally from Puerto Rico, we visited family often when I was a kid. I grew up on TWO islands surrounded by beautiful beaches and waters, and yet, I don't know how to swim, lol!
- What literary location would you most like to visit? Why?
There are a few places I would like to visit, most are in Italy! Primarilly, Romeo and Juliet :) I would also love to visit the Gatsby estate - I live SO close to it, and yet, it's not open to the public. Although, there is a rumor that it may be for sale again, lol! The last asking price was over 35million dollars, eep!
- Have your reading tastes changed since you started blogging? How?
Yes! I didn't think it would change, especially so quickly but it has! I still have a strong love for fairytale-ish stories. I do prefer to read more about angels, faeries and vampires too. But I have recently discovered that I do like to read contemporary, fantasy and werewolves are started to look good too, lol!
Thanks so much for stopping by to get to know me a bit more today!
Have a wonderful day and happy reading :)
I love scrap booking too. I've only made one, but it's a lot of fun. I also love baking so I'll have to look around your blog at posts about the candy making too. Did you ever watch Letters for Juliet? It takes place in Italy. You should visit there lol.

ReplyDeleteI love to make cards too. I don't really "scrapbook" but I have collected a lot of stuff for cards...I just posted my review of Shadow and Bone today. Awesome book!
ReplyDeleteMy BEA Post
It's amazing how reading habits can change! I would never have thought I'd be so into YA fantasies or YA contemporary books, but there are so many good ones out there!
ReplyDeleteI used to love cardmaking! However, I never sent out cards, so I stopped doing it. The cards were just piling up! I sold a whole bunch of my stuff online years ago, but kept a lot of the stamps and pretty papers (I adore pretty paper!). I wish I had held onto it all ... now that I send stuff out to book bloggers, it would've been nice to include a cute handmade card.
Happy BEA week! :)
I loved Shadow and Bone as well.
ReplyDeleteI really need to read Shadow and Bone. I've seen alot of it today. I cannot believe the Gatsby Estate's asking price is 35 mil. wow, thats a little insane.

My Intro
Hi! Fairy Tales, Italy, what's not to love? It all sounds great and I love the nickname! Enjoy Armchair BEA!

So do you think they would frown on touring the house as a fake prospective buyer? :) Somehow I think you'd have to prove you're serious about buying, which is too bad - it would be fun to see the Gatsby house.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Enchanted! I like it so far. I thought Catastrophic was really enjoyable and I can't wait for Shadow and Bone. Also, quite funny about the island thing. I know how to swim but not tread water so I'm basically useless in that department. also boo for the Gatsby estate not being open to public, that would be lovely if it was!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Shadow and Bone right now. Some of the titles are soo hard to pronounce. ooo I'd love to see the Gatsby estate. One of my all time favorite books.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my blog! I love how blogging expands your horizons and gives you the opportunity to see what people think about books you never thought that you would read.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Shadow and Bone right now and it's awesome! I reached the end of the free chapter sampler so I'm anxiously waiting for it to come out tomorrow. I didn't know you did scrapbooking. How fun! I can't believe all the things I didn't know about you :)
ReplyDeleteJessica @ Books: A true story
I've really gotten interested in fairy tales lately. All those Grimm stories are so interesting and I just love the show. I haven't seen Once Upon a Time yet on NBC - hoping to see that soon!
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful "meeting" you :) Armchair BEA @ the Brunette Librarian
You must be an incredibly busy woman, that is a lot to keep up with. I would love to visit Italy as well. I think the food would be simply amazing!
ReplyDeleteYay Margie, glad to see you're participating! I love your blog :D
ReplyDeleteTo tell the truth, I didn't learn how to swim until about 5 years ago, and it was only because my uncle literally threw me in a pool and told me I better figure it out. Yeah, he's a butthead. He's also my favorite uncle, so meh.
You must take swimming lessons! How will you even take your boys out to the water?? LOL
ReplyDeleteYOU HAVE A BIRD LIVING IN YOUR HOUSE!!!!!!!!!?
ReplyDelete*shudders*
Birds freak me out.
;-)
I am so into fairy tale books. It just so amazing to get swept off into this amazing world while reading!!
I would love to see your card making and stamp stuff. I love crafting myself. MAYBE I should have added that too.. because I bet not many people would think that!! lol
Happy Reading
Welcome to Armchair BEA12 so glad you found your way to the bookish world. I don't know why you needed to find others to talk to with those sticky two boys and a menagerie. I am guessing they do not cooperate and read the books you desire.
ReplyDeleteI read THE TAKER and love conversing with Alma on twitter, have you done so yet? One of your other reads "Witches of East End" by Melissa de la Cruz I really want to read.
Oh, ENCHANTED, yes! Seconding SHADOW AND BONE, too. I just finished that one this weekend and rushed out to buy a finished copy!!
ReplyDeleteYou're Puerto Rican? :) Right on! I'm Cuban/Colombian.
ReplyDeleteThe Gatsby estate would be sooooooooooo cool.
Cardmaking and stamping sounds like something I would love. I used to scrapbook a lot a few years ago and slowly drifted away from it. But cardmaking sounds super useful. might have to look into it. :)
